In 2012, Melbourne's CBD will host a herd of 50 fibreglass sculptures custom made into the shape of Melbourne Zoo's most famous Asian Elephant calf, Mali as part of the Zoo's 150th Anniversary Celebrations.
The life-size sculptures will transform the city's streets, parks, neighbourhoods and public spaces into an open air, free to view, visual cacophony of colourful stories, art and creativity.
Zoos Victoria has engaged highly acclaimed artist David Bromley to be the program's Art Patron.
And you can be part of this incredible pachydermal delight!
How?
We're calling on Melbourne's business community to sponsor a Mali sculpture. By doing so you will have your own custom-designed Mali in the streets of Melbourne for 6 weeks! At the end of the year we will auction off the Malis with all proceeds going to our conservation work as we fight the extinction of animals in Australia and overseas.
To sponsor your Mali, simply download and complete the sponsorship form below.
From April 2012, you will be able to choose your favourite design, or you can even choose to commission your own artist. Sponsorships are $5,000 for a designed Mali or $4,500 if you would like to commission your own artist.
We're also calling all artists to be part of this mammoth art event.
Each fibreglass elephant is a blank 3D canvas and we want artists to create innovative, inspiring and environmentally conscious designs to grace our 50 Malis who will be taking to the streets of Melbourne during 2012. From now until the 6 April, you can submit your design. We'll be commissioning successful artists from May 2012.
To submit your design simply download and complete the artist application form below.
