Accessibility at Melbourne Zoo

  • Visitors with a companion card are entitled to free entry for their accompanying companion upon presentation of their card. Visitors with a carer card are entitled to 10% discount when accompanying their caree on presentation of their card.
  • Parking: there are 6 accessible parking bays near the Main entrance of the Melbourne Zoo and 7 accessible parking bays located near the Rail Gate entrance.  There is a bus drop off point at the Main Gate and all day bus parking on the northern side of the zoo (except school and public holidays where it is open to all vehicles).

  • Access: All Melbourne Zoo pathways are suitable for wheelchairs and pushers.  Wheelchairs are available for free hire (bring photographic identification) and we strongly recommend you phone ahead to book on 03 9285 9300.  Pushers are $15 hire and photographic identification is also required.

  • Accessible toilets: are located at the Main Entrance on the way to the Gorilla Rainforest, in the Bistro, near the Rail Gate entrance close to the Picnic Pavilion, along Main Drive near Orang-utans, Elephant Village near the Bong-Su Room.

  • Assistance Animals that are certified by a registered authority are welcome at the Melbourne Zoo, however for the safety of your animal and our animals, they are not permitted in off limits areas including the Australian Bush walk-through areas.

  • Mobile Guided Tours: Friends of the Zoos volunteers offer free tours via an electric golf cart designed to assist with accessibility through the expansive Zoo grounds. The vehicles can carry up to three passengers at a time. It travels at walking pace so that assistants or family/ friends can tour with it on foot.  Tours run for approximately one hour and a half hours.  Please provide two week's for bookings, bookings will be subject to availability.  Operating terms and conditions apply. For more information please contact us on: 03 9285 9300.
