Devil’s Advocate – Saving the Tassie Devil

Without intervention, the extinction of the Tasmanian Devil is now a very real possibility.

Project Cost: $2 million
Total Raised: $496,732
Remaining: $1,503,268

In 2009, the Department for Primary Industries and Water announced that Devil Facial Tumour Disease is now found across 60% of Tasmania and that the progress of the disease is progressing faster than originally anticipated. It is now believed that the survival of the Tasmanian Devil will be dependant upon a viable mainland insurance population.

Healesville Sanctuary is implementing a breeding program to help build an important mainland insurance population of Devils. In 2009, the Sanctuary successfully welcomed 27 Tassie Devil joeys into the world, and is expecting even more this year. It will need the help of the Victorian community to get behind it and donate.

Our ‘Devil’s Advocate’ campaign will raise approximately $2million for the development of a purpose built breeding and research centre, as well as a special public exhibit so we can all enjoy this iconic creature. It will support the management of the breeding program for three years.

Your support of this campaign will ensure greater breeding success for this endangered species, and educate Healesville Sanctuary visitors about the plight of Tasmanian Devils.
