Melbourne Zoo's Lions have recently received a generous donation made in loving memory of Ben "Benny" Ferguson.

Benny had an affinity with animals. He was fascinated with Lions and particularly loved African animals. In late July of this year Benny visited Melbourne Zoo for his fourth Birthday. He had been to the zoo many times before - the zoo felt like home to Benny.

Benny was excited by everything he saw at the zoo, however his most precious moment was watching the Lions being fed. Mojo, Zuri, Chaka and Harare had all been fed but Mojo and Zuri raced for the same piece of meat. Benny stayed staring and watching intensely at what would happen next, hoping neither animal would be hurt. His thoughtful caring nature was expressed constantly with animals. This experience enlightened his fascination with the lions and his dream to be a Zoo Keeper was enriched. "When I'm bigger, I'm going to be a Zoo Keeper Vet" he would always say.

Benny, your joy and excitement are not lost - and your lion-heart lives on.

"The heart and courage of a lion, a voice bigger than any roar."
