Find out everything you need to know about doing work experience for Zoos Victoria's Melbourne Zoo, Werribee Open Range Zoo and Healesville Sanctuary
There is also important information on volunteering opportunities with Zoos Victoria and other organisations.
We currently do not run a formal voluntary work program, we focus more on work experience which you can find more information on below. Friends of the Zoo have an established voluntary work program for a wide variety of people. FOTZ are a support organisation at each of the three properties and offers volunteer work such as tour guides and administrative assistance. The FOTZ website is www.zoo.org.au/fotz
Keeper Volunteering
Due to the high demand of keeper volunteer request we receive, we have two avenues to undertake and be eligible to apply for volunteer keeping positions at Zoos Victoria. You either have to be enrolled in the Tertiary Students Volunteer Program, this program offers limited placements for interested & energetic students who are studying a relevant course. The other avenue is to be a part of the preferred keeper candidate list, to which we recruit to once a year. We have recruited to those positiotn in February 2011 and will most likely advertise again later in 2012.
For information on how to be a part of our preferred keeper list, please see Becoming a Zookeeper
Please see below for more detailed information on our tertiary and high school work experience programs, as well as general volunteer advice.
